Feeling Good

Yes I am. Even with Christmas round the corner. This week I have been running and when I have not run I have been to the gym to cycle or cross train and hit the weights. I’m 13 stone, my belly and love handles are reducing and firming up, my housemate has been through my running magazines and has started to cook a menu of treats from the food pages (she likes to cook) and I feel good. My taste buds are singing from a choir of new delights and cocktails of ingredients all designed to give energy and recovery when it’s needed.

So much so that I am giving myself Saturday off as a rest day. I think I need it. I went on a 8 mile run on Saturday last week then worked from 10pm to 6am fitting up a show to then go on another run in the afternoon of 7 miles and hit the gym on Monday then a 10K on Tuesday followed by gym Wednesday and a short 6K on Thursday in the rain and wind to the gym today. So a Saturday of rest is called for, plus I am planning a nice big run on Sunday, a 8 or 9 miles. However I am going to enjoy tonight with some curry and red wine, as a little treat and reward for this week. Doing it just the once won’t hurt surly, and I need to drink otherwise come Christmas my body won’t know whats hit it. Saying that I am planning a quiet Christmas, I’ve asked for running gear so am hoping I will be able to fit in a cheeky 5K on Christmas morning as well as Christmas eve as I don’t want the festive period to be an excuse for not getting out there, after all this weather hasn’t stopped me yet.

Anyway thought I would explain that all to you. I think I am also feeling happy as my stomach is starting to take shape, a long way away from Brad Pitt or Ronaldo but the very faintest building blocks are there, there is still a tyre all be it a bicycle one, but it’s starting to be toned, and the side flab is reducing…. This just means I need to work hard at it and keep it going.

Well those who follow me on twitter will have noticed there has been some radio silence. That is because I have retired from tweeting. I have reached my 10,oooth tweet in just over two years and I thought it was time to hang up my status updates.

We all know that give it two weeks I will be back on as all it will take is some idiot of a shop keeper or some girls on a bus talking absolute rubbish to get my blood to boil and vent all over cyber space.

Anyway enough about this, now it’s time to get to the hard stuff. My running is going, and I am very pleased with the progress. I have now run 10 miles so only really need to get it up to 11 miles and just work on my inner strength and stamina, and I think I will be ready. However what won’t be ready is my sponsorship. It is coming along, but really slow. People who have said they will donate have so far neglected the several ways that they can choose to part with their funds. To be honest I don’t blame them but I am now wondering why some people have thousands listed on their Just Giving Page from complete strangers and I have nothing. Well that’s not true I do have funds but nowhere near enough.

Donating by Text

Well donating as just got easier. As you know I am rasing money for Christies and the campaign is not going to well. It is still in the early days yet, and I now have £5 in the pot.

The fiver arrived through the new Just Giving method. Vodafone free of charge are allowing people to text their donations. So if you would like to donate quickly and can’t be bothered creating a Just Giving account then all you need to do is select an amount from £1 to £10 and send it in a message to 70070 along with LDEX73 in the subject.

What could be easier. You will then receive a text saying your donation as been succesful with a link to gift aid your donation. It would be great for those who do donate, to also gift aid, as we raise more money that way.

Hopefully soon I will start y training as i feel my foot my be finally on the mend, but for safety am giving it another week of no running to make completely sure.

Said it before, but if it’s worth saying it’s worth saying twice….

Or even worth saying three or four times. I have mentioned this now several times, but if Radio 4 and Radio 4 extra can repeat these shows then I’m allowed to repeat myself. Radio comedy is ace. I love it. prefer it from telly comedy. There is nothing better than to close my eyes, or go for a drive (not at the same time) and listen to the panel argue if it was repetition or picturing the image that is being voiced to me. I recommend you also listen to radio comedy, especially if you’re a fan. I also recommend you check out these shows below. These are my best radio shows that I love and admire. Many of them turned into telly shows that were equally as funny, but the radio versions still make me wet myself. It also explains my sense of humour and shows the influence of some of the todays comedies. Some shows are modern but the majority date back to the fifties, and some are still running. So here is the list, in no order. there are some that are Television shows that in the 80’s when radio comedy was short, they reversed the process and made them available for a radio audience like Dad’s Army and Yes Minister.

there all the ones that come to mind at the moment, but there are at least twice that many that I love.

The Dr says its good for you!

So my foot is injured and I have damaged my toe nail. I was the 3rd runner who had checked in with the doctor that day making him conclude that running must be good for you!

You see for some time now I have had a yellow toenail. A fungus infection I assumed, but in fact its occurred due to running and the constant rubbing or banging of the toe against the trainer causing the nail to be lifted off from the nail bed. The doctor diagnosed this very quickly and gave advice on how it can be prevented. On to the next query, my hurty foot. For those who have not updated themselves with my pain then allow me to summaries. I was out running and had to stop as a sharp pain was occurring on the top of my left foot. Some web browsing revealed a number of possibilities and today the doctor confirmed that it was bruised/sprained tendons caused again by the impact of running. When enquired on rest time he shrugged and suggested new trainers and to get back on it as I didn’t have much training time left.

So my question is should I remain rested and if so for how long? Or should I try a small jog tomorrow and risk injury for longer.

Maybe keeping one more day of rest and having some Ice on it again will help, I hope it does as with less than two weeks to go I’m getting concerned that I may not have trained as much as I should have.

The bigger issue is that I’m growing ever more restless and unhappy due to not jogging around my estate. I know they praise exercise for being good and making you feel well and full of energy, and I can fully agree as I love it. Its the only activity I seem to live for at the moment and being forced not to partake is killing me. So hopefully my foot will improve and I can once again start running to happiness (corny I know) again.

What to tweet?

Now this isn’t me just becoming a member of twittter. I have been tweeting all 7,000 tweets over the past two years. Tweets about what I’m doing, news stories that have made me laugh and cry, re-tweets, @mentions and basically me moaning about the world and his wife. I have tried giving it up, but like heroin you can never forget the first hit (the ones after and when your life is a mess you can forget) I until recently had not tweeted for some weeks, and while people had noticed and some were concerned the world carried on.

So I am not asking people what to tweet, I know what to tweet and I like it. I like the way that only a select number of people know who you are. As you don’t need to use your real name. The question is this, a couple of days ago, I tweeted “I no longer care about my job” and I got hounded by my friends, and other tweeters saying “Should you write that in such a public way?” So the question is this, who does or can twitter be censored. It’s no secret that I am getting bored with my job and dead-end career (just look at some of the tweets over the past year and my ambition to go to the NZ), and no doubt when something exciting comes along I may in deed get the buzz and feel for it, but at the moment I could not give a rats arse.

I might be warned or advised against this post, but at the end of the day I reckon that only 12 people know who I truly am, and what difference does it make if I say it to them in a pub, or on the web. I can think of worst stuff that people have put on the web, the amount of status’ on Facebook where people can see you in a picture and can work out who you are. People have lost their jobs because of Facebook status’ or lost friends and that is because your Facebook page is you, Harry Smith is Facebook, but on twitter Harry Smith can turn into Ungly_Manc and post what they like without people knowing who they are.

So to return to the finer point, was I wrong tweeting to the world that I could not care for my job, or were those friends who do know my twitter identity wrong to criticize me for my post??? In a way you do have to be careful of your online presence, as you can be tracked down, but it does involve a lot of websites and work. If you did want to find out who Angry_Manc was then you could if you really tried but at the end of the day twitter is mini blogging, its thoughts and off the cruft remarks. Should we read  literally everything that is posted I feel of course not, there has been stories of comedians getting into trouble posting jokes or comments, the same comments that when mentioned on a statical show would be laughed at. People need to see that twitter is an outlet of thoughts and expressions and we should not try to censor or police them, but the tweets do need to be put into context like that of the comedians. If I had posted it on my Facebook then people may have commented “Whats up” “Why” but twitter is different it seems.

Anyway I’m running out of things to say and have lost what my argument was. I thought it was something worth discussing, especially as I have posted worst things on twittter and have disguised them in a form of a story that no one complained about but rather enjoyed. So maybe next time when I become disgruntled with my career, I will post it like thus

“Damien was desperate to seek a new line of work, this one had become tiresome he thought”

 

Finally the truth, So they claim!!!!!

My god, this has angered me so much that I was yelling to the customer service agent.

Yes my online account issue is still not resolved, so I phoned up again ready to explain the issue to a new member of the so-called customer service team. To recap I log on and get an email saying thankyou for registering, a couple of days later I am no longer registered and have to go through the whole process again.

Today I was told that the computer system at Vodafone would not de-register me, which I told the agent that was bollocks and read out the list of emails saying I had registered. She then informed me, and this was the first person who has said this ‘That you can’t have postal bills and have an on-line account” This was after a long frustration of explaining the situation with her come backs of “Well the system is showing you don’t have an online account.” I know; I would say that is because its keeps being deleted. “But we can’t help you as there is no issue to investigate.” The issue is I register and the systems takes it away after a couple of days. “I’m sorry Sir we can’t investigate as you haven’t registered for an online account.” And so it went on, until she finally realised that I was right when I returned back to the evidence of the emails saying that I did in deed register for an online account. Anyway she said I couldn’t have both….

Now if this is the reason for the issue then why has no one else said this before????

The fact that this is a lie, as I have been told I can have both, as the online account section also allows you to place or lift calling bars, or look at My Vodafone (Kind of App store) I decided to take this has the best offer of a resolve but I will be phoning up and questioning the reasoning for this.

What this now means is I can’t access my Vodafone At Home billing or emails as I need to log into the My Account section to get to the link of @Home. However the helpful person informed me that they @home could send me paper billing and I could just access my email through my 3rd party client I would just need the @home team to send me a new password.

So within 15 mins my seven month issue seems to have been sorted. Fair enough, it means I can’t have an online presence as their stupid computer system won’t allow it, but it now means I will get my paper bills and my emails, and I will never have to go online to do anything.

So we will wait yet another month to see if this issue has completely been cleared up. I think we all know the answer will be no. But we can but hold our breath.
